1964: Edmund lived with his grandparents. His grandmother was very abusive, both physically and mentally, much like his mother. He killed his grandmother by shooting her in the head and stabbing her. Kemper also murdered his grandfather because he thought his grandfather would be angry that Kemper killed his grandmother. Kemper also claims that he committed the murders to "see what it felt like". Kemper was then committed to the Atascadero State Hospital for the criminally insane. He was 15 years old. After leaving the State Hospital, Kemper's juvenile record was cleared.
May 7th, 1972: Kemper offered Mary Ann Pesce and Anita Luchessa, two Fresno State College students, a ride. They were missing until August 15th, when a female head was found in the woods, later identified as Pesce's. Luchessa's remains were never found.
Kemper later explained that he stabbed and strangled one woman and stabbed the other. After the murders, Kemper took the bodies to his apartment and removed their heads and hands. Kemper reported that he engaged in sexual activity with the corpses.
January 1973: Kemper picked up hitchhiker, Cindy Schall. He later shot her. While his mother was out, Kemper went to his mother's house and hid Schall's body there. The following day, Kemper dismembered her corpse and threw the parts into the ocean. Several parts were later discovered as they washed up on shore.
February 1973: Using a University of California at Santa Cruz campus parking sticker, given to him by his mother, Kemper gave a ride to two female students, Rosalind Thorpe and Alice Liu. Shortly after picking the women up, Kemper shot the women and continued to drive off campus, past a campus security gates, with two mortally wounded women in his car. After the murders, Kemper decapitated the women and dismembered the bodies. After removing the bullets from their heads, Kemper disposed of the body parts in different locations. Thorpe's and Liu's remains were found by hikers near Highway 1 in San Mateo County.
April 1973: After an argument with his mother, Kemper attacked his mother after she went to sleep. Kemper hit her in the head with a hammer and then cut her throat. After removing part of his mother's throat and putting it in the garbage disposal, Kemper hid her body and went out to a bar that he frequented with his friends, who happened to be police officers.
After returning from the bar, Kemper invited his mother's friend, Sara "Sally" Hallett, over. Kemper killed Hallett shortly after she arrived at the house, and his her body in a closet.
Kemper fled the area the next day.
