Born December 18, 1948, in Burbank, California to Edmund Emil Kemper II. and Clarnell Strandberg.
Kemper was the second child, having a sister six years older and another two and a half years younger.
Kemper's parents once forced him to kill and eat his pet chickens.
Kemper II and Strandberg divorced when Edmund was nine years old. After the divorce, Strandberg took the children and moved to Montana. Kemper believed that his mother disliked him so much because he reminded her of his father.
Kemper was locked in the basement of his home as a child by his mother, in hopes to prevent him from harming his sisters.
Kemper used to torture and kill animals, as well as remove the heads off of his sisters dolls.
At the age of 14, Kemper left his mother's home, fleeing to Van Nuys, California to find his father. After being rejected by his father, Kemper was sent to live with his paternal grandparents in North Fork, California.
After leaving the Atascader State Hospital for the criminally insane, Kemper stayed with his mother for awhile, against the recommendation of doctors.
